Ice Layer at The Top of Mount Kilimanjaro is Decreasing
Kilimajaro Mount and Kenya Mount are an amazing mount covered by ice layer at their top and surrounded by dense forest at their slope. But, those scenery will be left like a story. The ice layer of both mount are decreasing and predicted will be gone because of global warming.
As being printed in page All Afrika, experts warned that ice layer at the top of Mount Kenya will absolutely disappear if we can’t dam up global warming, especially the emission of carbon by giant company in USA and China.
This ice layer decreasing is also happened to Mount Kilimanjaro. The sum of area covered by ice layer is decreasing from 12 kilometesr square in 1990 to 2 kilometers square only in 2000. Experts said that ice layer at the top of Kilimanjaro Mount disappeared 80% in a century . It is estimated that ice layer in Mount Kilimanjaro will wholly disappear in 2020. Lonnie Thompson, a professor from Ohio State University found that 85 percent of ice layer in Mount Kilimanjaro in 1912 disappear in 2007.
The melting is unique. Lonnie Thompson found that the ice layer on the upper surface is not massive. Lonnie found out there is a long hole in ice layer which is meant that there have been melting and freezing process this several year.
Meanwhile, the climbers of Mount Kenya admitted being puzzled because they found that the elevation of ice layer is different from what they found about Mount Kilimanjaro in 15 years ago. Waithera Kuria, a climber from Nairobi, said that that condition is a fact of global warming and it is really happened. The ice is melting and flow to slope and makes lake.
