Ice Layer at The Top of Mount Kilimanjaro is Decreasing

Kilimajaro Mount and Kenya Mount are an amazing mount covered by ice layer at their top and surrounded by dense forest at their slope. But, those scenery will be left like a story. The ice layer of both mount are decreasing and predicted will be gone because of global warming.

As being printed in page All Afrika, experts warned that ice layer at the top of Mount Kenya will absolutely disappear if we can’t dam up global warming, especially the emission of carbon by giant company in USA and China.

This ice layer decreasing is also happened to Mount Kilimanjaro. The sum of area covered by ice layer is decreasing from 12 kilometesr square in 1990 to 2 kilometers square only in 2000. Experts said that ice layer at the top of Kilimanjaro Mount disappeared 80% in a century . It is estimated that ice layer in Mount Kilimanjaro will wholly disappear in 2020. Lonnie Thompson, a professor from Ohio State University found that 85 percent of ice layer in Mount Kilimanjaro in 1912 disappear in 2007.

The melting is unique. Lonnie Thompson found that the ice layer on the upper surface is not massive. Lonnie found out there is a long hole in ice layer which is meant that there have been melting and freezing process this several year.

Meanwhile, the climbers of Mount Kenya admitted being puzzled because they found that the elevation of ice layer is different from what they found about Mount Kilimanjaro in 15 years ago. Waithera Kuria, a climber from Nairobi, said that that condition is a fact of global warming and it is really happened. The ice is melting and flow to slope and makes lake.

     Talking about emotional intelligence reminds me of one of television program, Nanny 911, which a nanny try to control children’s bad behavior . This behavior surprises me even makes me wonder how they can act in an emotional way. All I know about kids are cute and behaved as their age. But, nowadays, children are more vulnerable to anger, depression, and anxiety. By reading the tittle only, Emotional Intelligence, I think I can know more why children’s behavior today prone to emotional behavior.

     The article tittled Emotional Intelligence explains us that emotional behavior in someone’s future life can be seen in early year when someone is in childhood and it has impact on someone’s success in life. It can be concluded by Goleman’s experiment towards four-year-old children who were faced by two choices when a man gave them a marshmallow: eating it right away or wait for the man to come back from an errand. A dozen years later with the same children, those who had resisted eating the marshmallow were more socially competent than the others. But, those who grabbed the marshmellow were more seen as shying away from social contacts.

     It’s all because of a lone neuron in the brain that bypasses the neocortex—the area of the brain where rational decisions are made—and goes straight to the amygdala, or emotional center of the brain. The more that emotional memories involving temper piles up in early adolescence, the more the amygdala can hijack the rest of the brain. But the amygdala takes a long time to mature, around fifteen or sixteen years, which means that emotional intelligence can be taught at home and, especially, at school.

     In this article, the writer tried to share informations about why an overreact occurs on someone behavior by Goleman’s experiment. He also tried to let us know more about how brain has a big influence towards emotional intelligence.

     Goleman’s experience has given us a bright view of emotional intelligence. We know that emotional intelligence depends on what kind of behavior we can fill to children’s mind by doing good actions in daily life. It’s important because it needs a long time for amygdala to mature, so there is still enough time for parents to be a good model of good behavior for their children’s bright future.

     It’s not about the marshmallow, but it’s more to the way how a children decided to act according to just what they felt and thought in a real pure thinking of children or natural process.

How to Turn Off the Water Supply to a Toilet

When it's floating at a certain height, the valve stops letting water into the tank; when you flush the toilet, the float falls with the water level and reopens the water valve. This allows the toilet to refill, stopping when the float reaches the correct height again. So, to get to the point, you need to prevent the float falling when the water level drops.
3Try slipping a narrow length of wood under the lift arm/float lever (3) and balancing it on both sides of the tank to hold the lever up. If the sides of the tank are too high up to do this, you'll need another method.
4Take a thick elastic band that doesn't stretch as easily. Wrap it around the lift arm/float lever (3) in a loop. Take a curtain hook or similar and slip it onto the elastic band. Hook it over the side of the tank.
5Flush the toilet to empty it. The tank should empty, and the wood/band should hold the lift arm up so that the valve doesn't open and let water in.

Pernahkan Anda membayangkan bagaimana iklim Indonesia di tahun-tahun mendatang? Melihat kondisi iklim Indonesia saat ini saja yang tidak menentu sudah membuat kita menggelengkan kepala, bingung, atau bahkan ketakutan. Pernahkan Anda berpikir saat mengendarai kendaraan Anda di jalan raya, mengapa jalan raya seolah-olah semakin menyempit, padahal ternyata segudang kendaraan bermotor siap mengkontribusikan berliter-liter minyak bumi ke dalam asap kendaraan yang dapat mengancam atmosfir bumi? Melihat kondisi ini membuat saya menganalisis tentang dampak dari emisi CO2 ini. Ternyata, berdasarkan sumber yang saya dapat, emisi CO2 ini dapat berdampak pada level keasaman air laut yang semakin meningkat. Awalnya, para peneliti mengira bahwa laut menjadi solusi penting dalam mengurangi emisi CO2 yang sudah melampaui batas. CO2 akan bereaksi dengan H2O sehingga dapat mengurangi emisi CO2 setiap harinya. Namun, hasil reaksinya malah akan membentuk H2CO3 yang bersifat asam dan ini sangat mempengaruhi keberlangsungan kehidupan bawah laut, seperti hewan-hewan laut bercangkang akan sulit untuk membentuk cangkang pada kondisi asam. Demikian pula pengaruhnya pada ketersediaan pangan laut untuk manusia. Jelas saja, dengan matinya terumbu karang akibat air laut yang semakin asam akan mengurangi jumlah plankton yang bermigrasi ke daerah lain untuk mencari makanan, dan pada akhirnya akan mengurangi jumlah ikan di laut.

Mungkin ada satu hal yang Anda ingin tahu. Seberapa asamkah air laut saat ini? Kadar keasaman air laut sebelumnya adalah sekitar 8,10 dalam satuan pH, sementara saat ini, keasaman air laut mencapai 8,05. Memang perubahannya tampak tidak begitu berarti, tapi untuk ukuran bagi air laut, perubahan ini sangat signifikan dan sangat berpengaruh terhadap ekosistem air laut.

Melihat kondisi bumi yang semakin memprihatinkan sudah selayaknya bagi kita untuk sadar diri dan berbuatlah sesuatu yang dapat "menyembuhkan" bumi. Manusia adalah makhluk yang berbudaya, memiliki akal, pikiran, dan perasaan yang semestinya dapat dimanfaatkan dengan baik oleh manusia itu sendiri demi melakukan perubahan yang positif untuk bumi.
